3 right-back options for Liverpool if the duo don’t bounce back to face Ajax

Liverpool might have to be resourceful as a right-back against Ajax on Tuesday. The Reds could run out of their first-pick options, after all.

What should Liverpool do as a right back against Ajax? It is certainly difficult.

Trent Alexander-Arnold has missed Liverpool’s last three games, while James Milner was injured against Brighton. The former is the best in the world, of course, while the latter has been brilliant in reserve.

As we see it, Jurgen Klopp has some decent options. Here are three we think you could go with on Tuesday.

Neco williams

Neco Williams is the most obvious. He’s a natural right-back, after all, and he played there against Atalanta and Brighton.

But while he’s the natural choice, Williams hasn’t played well recently. He made mistakes against both opponents and gave up a penalty at AMEX.

It will start if Klopp trusts him, but the boss can get him out of the line of fire.

Fabinho

Definitely a gamble. Fabinho can play right back, and started his career in Europe there, but Liverpool may want him on defense.

Back injuries pushed Fabinho to be a first-choice central midfielder. But if Klopp relies on Joel Matip, who did not face Brighton, along with Nat Phillips or Rhys Williams, the Brazilian could be a very interesting option.

He knows the position very well and would keep the flank strong defensively.

Curtis jones

Curtis Jones is essentially the opposite of Fabinho, but he is still an option. Tellingly, Klopp signed him as a right-back after Milner left against Brighton.

But it is certainly not a natural. Jones probably wouldn’t keep things solid, but his ball prowess could make him the option.

Jones would play a role in a very offensive Liverpool, which may be the way to go. The Reds need a win to end the group and Klopp may want to play for it.
