3 new Covid-19 clusters detected in Sabah, Selangor

PETALING JAYA: Three new Covid-19 clusters have been detected in Sabah and Selangor during the last 24 hours, the Ministry of Health revealed.

In a statement, Chief Health Officer Dr. Noor Hisham Abdullah said the groups were known as the Samudera group in Sabah, as well as the Palma and Jaya groups in Selangor.

The Samudera cluster was detected in Sandakan, Sabah. Noor Hisham said the index case had tested positive for Covid-19 after showing symptoms on October 20.

The case was admitted to Duchess of Kent Hospital for treatment, and close contact tests found seven others who tested positive.

Meanwhile, Palma’s group in Gombak and Hulu Selangor, Selangor, also goes back to Kepong, Kuala Lumpur. The first case in this group showed symptoms and tested positive on October 17.

The patient is currently receiving treatment at Sungai Buloh Hospital. Twelve other cases have been detected through close contact examinations.

As of noon, 101 people have been tested, and 88 are still awaiting test results.

The Jaya cluster dates back to Sepang, Selangor and Seremban, Negeri Sembilan. The index case tested positive in a workplace screening test on October 20 and was admitted to Sungai Buloh Hospital for further treatment.

Close contact screening tests detected eight other people who have tested positive for Covid-19 and a total of 48 people have been tested, 39 of whom are still awaiting results.

Of the 710 new infections today, Noor Hisham said 140 were detected in the Kepayan group in Kota Kinabalu, while the Reman prison group in Penang recorded 39 new cases.

He added that another 34 new cases come from new and existing conglomerates in the Klang Valley.
