PETALING JAYA: Three private hospitals in Selangor will become Covid-19 vaccination centers, joining two in Kuala Lumpur, which recently began vaccinating leaders.
The President of the Association of Private Hospitals Malaysia (APHM), Dr. Kuljit Singh, said that Kuala Lumpur Pantai Hospital and KPJ Tawakal have vaccinated more than 800 healthcare workers since March 1, in collaboration with the health department of the federal territory.
Kuljit said APHM has discussed a similar initiative with Selangor’s health department for three more hospitals to start vaccinating the leaders, while similar arrangements are being made in Perak.
He said the vaccinations at the two Kuala Lumpur hospitals had gone well and no losses or incidents were reported, adding that it showed that private hospitals were capable of running the vaccination program.
“We really feel that this is an excellent public-private partnership that will increase the number of vaccinations in the following weeks to complete the first phase by the end of this month.
“The KL health department determined the list of all those who received their first dose of Pfizer-BioNtech and the vaccinators were the personnel of the different private hospitals within the state,” he said today in a statement.
Kuljit said this was the first step for private hospitals to administer the vaccines to the general public, although the government is still discussing it.
