Standard operating procedures for EMCO are similar to those previously announced, and such locations must be cordoned off with barbed wire.

KUALA LUMPUR: Three locations, one in Perak and two in Sabah, will be placed under an Enhanced Movement Control Order (EMCO) from November 20 to December 3, Chief Security Minister Ismail Sabri Yaakob said today.

In a press conference, Ismail said that they are Kampung Nahaba and Kampung Tegudon in Kota Belud, Sabah, as well as Taman Meru 2C zones B and C in Ipoh, Perak.

He said the Health Ministry advised the government to implement EMCO after 76 cases were detected in Taman Meru 2C and 36 infections were reported in Kota Belud villages.

“The SOPs will be similar to what was announced prior to this and more information can be found on the National Security Council website,” he said.

Ismail also announced that the EMCO for the Tawau Temporary Detention Center, Sandakan Prison and the Taman Wira staff quarters will run until December 3, as there are more than 1,000 pending test results.

The Seberang Perai Prison and the EMCO staff units will also run until December 2, and the test results of 75 prisoners, staff members and families are not yet known.

Ismail also reminded anyone returning to Malaysia from abroad to make sure they have the funds to pay for the mandatory quarantine they will have to go through.

This came after complaints that some were shocked after being asked to pay their quarantine fees right after passing the immigration checkpoint at the airport.

“When they apply with immigration (while abroad) to return (to Malaysia), they must complete a letter of commitment, promising to pay the costs of the quarantine.

“So whoever is allowed to return, once you’ve agreed to pay the fee, prepare the money. Because once you land in Malaysia, after you get through immigration, you will be asked to pay, ”he said.
