PETALING JAYA: Twenty-nine people have been arrested in a major police operation that began after a shooting near a school in Banting in September.

In a statement today, Selangor CID chief Fadzil Ahmad said the operation, codenamed “Ops Blackjack,” led to the arrest of 19 people suspected of participating in gang activity and organized crime.

“Further investigations were carried out under the Security Offenses (Special Measures) Act. Subsequently, another 10 were arrested, bringing the total number of suspects to 29, “he said.

Fadzil said the investigation documents were sent to the Attorney General’s Office on October 27.

“The indictment of these suspects is expected to end gang activities and organized crime in Banting, Kuala Langat and all of Selangor.”

On September 25, it was reported that three students from a school in Banting were injured after a car driver trying to flee two gunmen pursuing them crashed into them.

Police said the two victims in the car, a businessman and his bodyguard, were shot several times in the chest and other parts of the body and were rushed to hospital.

Police believe that a fight between two groups was the motive for the shooting.
