284 arrested for disobeying standard operating procedures

PETALING JAYA: A total of 284 people were caught by the police for violating the Recovery Motion Control Order (RMCO) regulations yesterday, Chief Minister (Defense) Datuk Seri Ismail Sabri Yaakob said via a live press conference on Facebook today.

“The arrests were the result of a police task force that involved 3,024 squads and 12,887 members conducting 7,077 inspections regarding standard operating procedures (SOPs),” he said.

Of those arrested, 278 were given enclosures and six were sent for further investigations.

“The crimes included not wearing face masks (134), not observing social distancing (68), not providing equipment for recording personal data (33), not observing the SOPs of the conditional movement control order (CMCO) ( 20), venues that open after the allowed time (16), pub and disco activities (eight), which refuse to undergo the Covid-19 detection test (three), which carry more passengers than allowed (one) and trying to evade a barricade (one), ”he added.

Ismail Sabri also mentioned that Ops Benteng security personnel arrested 37 undocumented immigrants for attempting to enter Malaysia illegally, as well as for the seizure of two ground vehicles and the implementation of 282 roadblocks across the country.

Meanwhile, he added that as of October 14, 273 investigations have been opened by police and the Malaysian Communications and Multimedia Commission (MCMC) regarding fake news about Covid-19.

“A total of 136 are still under investigation, 35 have been taken to court, 21 have been found guilty, 13 are on trial and 12 have received warning notices,” he said.

A total of 390 explanations and discreditations of fake news have also been carried out by the Response brigade of the Ministry of Communications and Multimedia.

He also clarified that the CMCO applied in Selangor as of today includes the sub-district of Klang (mukim), and the previous order in the sub-district is canceled.
