SINGAPORE (The Straits Times / ANN): 27 new coronavirus cases were confirmed as of noon on Wednesday (December 30), bringing Singapore’s total to 58,569.
There were 26 imported cases and 25 of them were sent home or isolated upon arrival in Singapore, the Ministry of Health (MOH) said.
The remaining imported case was a Singapore Airlines pilot who tested negative for Covid-19 upon his return to Singapore, but developed symptoms later.
Among the imported cases, seven are Singaporean or permanent residents and six are foreign domestic workers.
There was a new community case and none of the workers’ bedrooms.
On Tuesday, the Health Ministry reported that the part-time Grab driver who was the only community case of Covid-19 on Monday had been temporarily suspended from the Grab platform, in accordance with the transport operator’s safety precautionary measures. .
Grab said in a statement Tuesday that he is working with the Health Ministry to provide all necessary information on the man, who also works as a member of the Singapore Airlines cabin crew, for contact tracing purposes.
He added that to ensure higher standards of safety and hygiene, all of his drivers have access to free disinfectant and disinfectant at the Grab Driver Center. After each trip, Grab drivers and passengers can provide feedback or report any health and hygiene concerns.
Meanwhile, a 48-year-old Singaporean who returned from Indonesia was one of 13 coronavirus cases announced on Tuesday.
All coronavirus cases announced on Tuesday were imported and comprised one Singaporean, two permanent residents, nine work permit holders and one short-term visitor pass holder.
A 71-year-old permanent resident had returned from the United States. The other cases returned from Bangladesh, India, Indonesia and Malaysia.
All imported cases were placed on a stay-at-home notice or isolated upon arrival in Singapore, the Health Ministry said.
There were no new community cases and none of the workers’ bedrooms on Tuesday.
Overall, the number of new cases in the community has remained low, with only one case currently unlinked in the last week.
Singapore has had 29 deaths from Covid-19 complications, while 15 who tested positive have died from other causes.
