KUALA LUMPUR: The police arrested 25 members of the gang “TCB 21” on suspicion of involvement in serious crimes in Banting and Dengkil, Selangor, under the Crime Prevention Act of 1959.
Bukit Aman CID Director Huzir Mohamed said 29 suspected members of organized crime groups believed to be involved in the shooting of a businessman and his bodyguard in Banting had been detained on October 13 and 14, but not there was enough evidence to charge them.
He said the 29 had been detained under Section 130V and Chapter VIB of the Penal Code.
“At that time, investigations were also carried out under the Security Crimes (Special Measures) Act of 2012 (Sosma) that allowed them to be detained for 28 days.
“The investigation document was forwarded to the attorney general’s office but the evidence was insufficient to process them,” he said in a statement.
Hazir said the arrest of the 25 was carried out yesterday to maintain peace and public order.
“Investigations found that the TCB 21 gang is a secret society active in committing serious crimes such as attempted murder with firearms, robbery, sabotage, and extortion,” he said.
A businessman and his bodyguard were injured in the chest and other parts of the body on September 25 after being shot by two men on a motorcycle in Banting.
It was also reported that three high school students were injured in the incident.
