PETALING JAYA: A total of 246 people were arrested yesterday by the police for disobeying standard operating procedures (SOP) under the Recovery Motion Control Order (RMCO).
In a statement, Chief Minister (Defense) Datuk Seri Ismail Sabri Yaakob (pix) said 236 had been aggravated while 10 had been referred.
Of the 246 arrested, 91 were involved in nightclub or pub activities, 84 were due to not providing customers with the log books or QR code to register entry, 44 were people who did not wear face masks, 23 were disobeying the requirements of social distancing and the remaining four had violated other SOPs.
“The police, consisting of 2,955 teams involving 13,432 personnel, carried out a total of 44,501 checks yesterday to ensure that standard operating procedures were being followed,” said Ismail Sabri.
The controls were carried out in supermarkets, restaurants, factories, banks, offices, as well as in transportation centers such as airports and ground transportation stations.
Apart from that, yesterday a total of 76 illegal immigrants and two captains were arrested. Eight land vehicles were also confiscated yesterday.
The police, along with the army and border control officers, also implemented a total of 112 roadblocks across the country.
Meanwhile, Ismail Sabri also said that the Enhanced Movement Control Order (EMCO) will be enforced in Westlite worker neighborhoods in Taman Perindustrian Tampoi Jaya, Johor Baru due to a sharp increase in cases in the area.
“The upgraded MCO will begin December 26 through January 8, 2021 and involves 231 housing units with an estimated 3,116 residents,” he said.
In the December 21-23 assessment, a total of 115 positive cases were observed out of the 3,116 residents who live there, all of whom are foreign workers.
