PETALING JAYA: Nearly 250 employees at leather car upholstery maker Pecca Group tested positive for Covid-19.

In a presentation to Bursa Malaysia, Pecca said that “some” employees of its subsidiary, Pecca Leather Sdn Bhd (PLSB), tested positive during a recent test, after which PLSB conducted an immediate test of 597 employees.

Of those tested, 246 were positive for Covid-19.

The company has been shut down for seven days, after a similar shutdown last month when three employees tested positive.

“As of December 21, 2020, the swab test results indicated 246 positive cases,” Pecca said in the presentation.

“Affected employees are receiving necessary medical care while close contacts are in quarantine and will undergo further testing.”

PLSB is expected to resume operations before December 28 pending further consultations with the Health Ministry, and the seven-day shutdown is expected to have less than 5% impact on the group’s revenue in fiscal year 2021.

Pecca also estimated that swab tests, quarantine measures, and disinfection processes would cost up to RM500,000.

Pecca temporarily halted operations for six days last month after one of his workers tested positive during screening of more than 600 employees across the company. Later, the company announced that two other employees had also tested positive.
