PETALING JAYA: Police arrested 241 people across the country yesterday for violating current movement restrictions to control the spread of Covid-19.

Chief Security Minister Ismail Sabri Yaakob said in a statement that 202 people arrested paid compound fines and 39 were detained.

Among the crimes are the lack of preparation of the team to record customer data (78), not wearing masks (77), disobeying the rules of physical distancing (43), activities in entertainment centers (41) and other (2).

He also said that the police installed 125 barricades across the country for border control operations.

Ismail said 51 illegal immigrants and a smuggler (tekong) were detained. Six vehicles and two boats were seized.

Meanwhile, Ismail said the task force teams carried out 50,258 verifications yesterday to monitor and enforce the SOPs.

A total of 2,837 workforce teams, with 12,888 members, carried out controls in 3,566 supermarkets, 4,996 restaurants and 1,860 street vendors.

They also reviewed 1,179 factories, 3,557 banks, 630 government offices, 1,083 land transport terminals, 290 water transport terminals and 101 air transport terminals.

Speaking about mandatory quarantine, Ismail said 86,398 people arrived in Malaysia from 36 countries between July 24 and December 11.

He said that all of them were placed in 78 hotels and 19 public training institutes, as well as private learning institutes in Kuala Lumpur, Selangor, Negeri Sembilan, Penang, Johor, Sarawak, Kelantan, Perak, Kedah, Perlis, Terengganu, Sabah, Labuan. and Melaka.

Of that number, 12,827 are currently in mandatory quarantine, 543 have been admitted to hospital for treatment and 73,028 have been allowed to return home.
