KUALA LUMPUR: Police arrested 235 people yesterday for crimes related to the movement control order, Chief Security Minister Ismail Sabri Yaakob said today.
Of the total, Ismail said 233 were imposed compound fines, while the remaining two were detained.
The crimes included failure to wear face masks, failure to register or provide contact tracing materials, and failure to observe physical distancing.
A total of 2,990 compliance work teams were deployed to carry out controls in supermarkets, restaurants, street vendors, factories, banks, government offices, as well as land, water and air transportation terminals.
Ismail also said the police detained 40 undocumented immigrants and five traffickers under Ops Benteng. Seven vehicles and four boats were also seized.
He added that 87,013 people came through the KLIA between July 24 and December 15 from various countries.
A total of 532 people tested positive and were sent to the hospital for treatment, while 77,076 were allowed to return home.
Some 9,405 people are currently in mandatory quarantine.
