2,253 new cases, increase in Perak

COVID-19 | The Ministry of Health reported 2,253 new cases of Covid-19 at noon today, of which seven cases are imported from abroad.

Most cases are still concentrated in the Klang Valley (755 cases; 33.5 percent), but there has also been an increase in cases in Perak (545 cases; 24.2 percent).

Cases in Perak are at their highest level since a major increase of 1,215 cases was recorded five days earlier, on February 21.

Since then, Perak has recorded an average of 262 cases per day before today’s peak.

Most of Perak’s cases today are attributed to Jalan Changkat Jong’s group, which has recorded 474 cases today for a total of 1,814 cases to date. It was first detected on February 18 and is linked to a factory in Teluk Intan.

Other states and territories that are currently in triple-digit numbers are: Selangor (633), Johor (276), Sarawak (250), Sabah (129) and Kuala Lumpur (122).

However, the number of active cases continues its downward trend and has reached pre-emergency levels today, after 3,085 cases were registered.

The Health Ministry said there are 27,994 active cases, compared to 28,554 active cases on January 11 when Yang di-Pertuan Agong accepted an emergency proclamation in light of the growing number of Covid-19 cases.

Deceased

Today there have been eleven new deaths from Covid-19, five of which had already died when they were taken to the hospital.

This brings the national death toll to 1,111 cases.

Four of those deaths involve cases in Selangor, followed by Kuala Lumpur (3), Sarawak (two), Sabah (1) and Johor (1). Three of them are not citizens.

The ages of the deceased range between 36 and 78 years. Five of them had already died when they were transferred to a hospital.
