The new Honda City Hatchback has made its world debut in Thailand, almost exactly one year since the sedan version was launched on November 25, 2019. The abbreviated city has been heavily rumored since patent images of the model appeared earlier in the year. February, with Honda. Thailand only confirms its arrival earlier this month.

For Thailand, the City Hatchback is offered in just three variants, one less than the sedan version. The base option is the S + which is priced at 599,000 baht (RM80,776), followed by the mid-spec SV at 675,000 baht (RM91,025) and the upper-range RS at 749,000 baht (RM101,011). These prices are higher than the city’s sedan range, which starts at 579,500 baht (RM78,152) and tops out at 739,000 baht (RM99,662).

There are no surprises when it comes to style, as the City Hatchback has the same front end as its sedan sibling, with identical design for the headlights, grille, hood, and bumper. This continues down the sides of the vehicle, as the prominent character line that runs above the door handles and joins the front and rear light clusters remains visible.

Moving to the rear, the differences between the two body styles are immediately apparent (for obvious reasons). For starters, the hatchback’s roofline extends longer to meet a roof spoiler, which sits over the tailgate with a sloping rear window. This also makes the C-pillars more upright, allowing the fuel door gap to be positioned higher than the side character line.

As for the rear, the City Hatchback has its own taillight design reminiscent of the Mercedes-Benz A-Class W177, with a lighting signature similar to that found on the sedan. Beyond that, the rear bumper features a recessed lip and much thinner reflectors on its edges.

In terms of dimensions, the hatchback is 4,345mm long (4,349mm for the RS variant), making it 208mm shorter than the sedan, while the height is 21mm to 1,488mm. No change in width and wheelbase, which remain at 1,748mm and 2,589mm respectively.

Inside, the City Hatchback is pretty much the same as its sedan sibling, with an Advanced Touch eight-inch touchscreen head unit built into the dash (RS variant only), along with large air vents. Meanwhile, the center console houses the controls for the air conditioning system, a power outlet, USB ports and a small storage compartment.

Lower down the center console is where you’ll find two cup holders and the gear lever, followed by the handbrake and more storage areas, including one under the armrest (SV and RS variants only). In front of the driver, there are still analog gauges with a Multiple Information Display (MID) between them, and the steering wheel is the same with the controls on the steering wheel.

It’s not just a carbon copy though, as Honda says the hatchback offers more legroom than the sedan and it even comes with Ultra Seats, allowing for four rear seat configurations: utility, long, tall modes. and update, as the company explains.

Under the hood, the City Hatchback sports the same 1.0-liter (998 cc) three-cylinder VTEC Turbo as the sedan, delivering 122 hp at 5,500 rpm and 173 Nm of torque from 2,000 to 4,500 rpm. The grinder, which runs on E20 gasahol, is paired with a continuously variable transmission (CVT) that drives the front wheels.

In terms of equipment, the S + comes with projection headlights, a chrome front grille, 15-inch alloy wheels, a black interior, cloth seat upholstery, manual air conditioning, keyless entry and engine start, a system idle stop, a standard head unit with four speakers and Bluetooth, four airbags, vehicle stability assist, hill start assist, ABS, EBD and Isofix child seat anchors

The SV adds side mirror gauges, leather seats, single-zone automatic air conditioning, white lighting for the MID, a storage box in the center console, the aforementioned eight-inch Advanced Touch system, and a rearview camera from multiple angles.

The pricier RS stands out in the range with its black front grille, shark fin antenna, tailgate spoiler, door handles, side mirror caps, rear diffuser element and fog lamp garnish. Also features exclusive 16-inch wheels, suede / fabric / leather seat combination, paddle shifters, cruise control, red lighting for the MID, two more sockets for the rear passengers, a rear armrest, eight speakers, telematics system Honda Connect and two more airbags for a total of six.

The City Hatchback will be available in six colors in Thailand, including Ignite Red Metallic, Platinum White Pearl, Meteoroid Gray Metallic, Sonic Gray Pearl, Crystal Black Pearl and Taffeta White. A range of Modulo accessories is also offered, with items such as rear spoiler garnish, decorative gills on the fender, red and blue stickers on the wheels, door handle protectors and a trunk tray.

So what do you think of the City Hatchback? Do you prefer it to the sedan? There have been rumors that suggest that the fourth generation Jazz will not reach our shores, as its place will be taken by the City Hatchback. A wise move? Turn off the sound below in the comments.
