The BMW 5 Series is currently in its seventh generation and the latest version will soon reach the middle of its life cycle. In BMW tradition, the car will receive a facelift to make it look and feel fresh for the second half of its life.
A prototype has just been detected for the facelifted version of the Touring 5 Series wagon sold abroad. The facelifted versions of the 5-series sedan and the high-performance M5 are also being tested. The camouflage material seen here suggests that we will be treated with a revised grille and front fascia, in addition to new headlights. Similarly, the rear fascia will also be revised and we can also see adjustments in the signature of the tail light.
The grill in particular is likely to adopt the dual kidney combination design featured in the latest Series 3 and 7 models. Fortunately, the changes do not appear to be as extensive as the Series 7 facelift. his current form is already a handsome brute.
We don’t expect many changes to the powertrain lineup, as the 5 Series already received some new powertrains for the 2020 model year. For example, the plug-in hybrid 530e iPerformance received a new battery that offers more electric range and the M550i a more powerful V-8. The 530i and 540i may be able to see more power or perhaps the addition of smooth hybrid technology with the arrival of the 5-series facelifted.

It’s unclear if there were any cabin-related changes, but there will likely be an updated infotainment system and new electronic driver assistance features.
Look for the facelifted 5 Series to hit dealerships later this year as a 2021 model. Unfortunately, the facelifted 5-Series Touring is unlikely to hit the United States, as the current version isn’t sold here.
