2 reasons Liverpool can forget about signing David Alaba in January

Here are two reasons Liverpool may forget about a January play by David Alaba. The Austrian is out of contract in 2021.

Liverpool should not move for David Alba in January, no matter how good he is. Here are two reasons the Reds should look elsewhere.

Free agent

SportBild claimed earlier this month that Bayern Munich pulled out of contract negotiations with Alaba. Why? For your demands.

The current one expires in June and the Bavarians made it a substantial offer. The report has that offer at around £ 200k a week, with about half in bonuses each week.

According to Spotrac, that would make him the highest earner in Liverpool. However, Alaba rejected him; seems to want a little more.

The question then is: Is it worth breaking the salary structure for Alaba? We say no.

He’s extremely talented, of course, but he’s not really what the Reds need. Alaba plays primarily as a left back, but Andy Robertson is arguably the best of all.

The Austrian can play defense but as a left-center midfielder. That is the role of Virgil van Dijk and Alaba is not so good at it.

There’s also the midfield option, but Liverpool have plenty of midfielders.

Wish

Bayern, again according to SportBild, does not want to sell Alaba in January. They do not need the cash and prefer to keep it.

Thus, if Liverpool wanted it, they would have to offer a very high amount for a player who would be free in six months.

But you can bet Alaba would still want those ‘free agent’ salaries, why not?

All of that, combined with where he plays, and we just don’t see how it would be worth signing Alaba.

There are other options on the market that are cheaper and more suitable for Liverpool.
