KOTA KINABALU: Two members of the security forces have been arrested in Lahad Datu on suspicion of buying votes for a political party in state elections.

According to a source, the suspects were arrested after the Malaysian Anti-Corruption Commission received a tip.

“It is believed that the money was to be given to other officials as an incentive to vote for a certain party today,” the source said.

Early voting for 16,877 police and military personnel and their spouses began today at 8 a.m. at 55 voting centers across the state. Voting ends at 5 p.m.

Sabah MACC boss S Karunanithy confirmed the arrests but declined to comment further.
