PETALING JAYA: The two men who appeared in a viral video clip showing a car colliding with multiple vehicles in Sierramas, Sungai Buloh, and police shooting desperately to stop them last week, were indicted today in two courts here for various crimes.

Mustaza Mustaffa, 35, and Khairul Fazily Fadzil, 40, pleaded not guilty after the charges against them were read before Judge Norshila Kamaruddin and Judge Nurshahira Abd Salim.

In the court of sessions, Mustaza was charged with attempting to assassinate two policemen, Corporals M Amareisan and Mohd Edham Zakaria, by quickly reversing a car and trying to run over the two policemen at a traffic light crossing, Jalan Kuala Selangor bound for Kepong, Damansara, here at 12:30 pm on February 26.

The charge, according to Section 307 of the Penal Code, carries a maximum jail sentence of 20 years after conviction.

Mustaza and Khairul were jointly charged with possessing a dangerous weapon, an ax, at the same place, time and date.

The charge was framed under Section 5 and Section 6 (1) of the Corrosive and Explosive Substances and Offensive Weapons Act of 1958.

Meanwhile, in the magistrates court, Mustaza and Khairul were jointly accused of preventing the same policemen from carrying out their duties at the same place, time and date, in accordance with article 186 of the Penal Code, read in conjunction with article 34 of the same code. , which carries a maximum jail sentence of two years or a fine of up to RM10,000 or both, if convicted.

Mustaza also sought trial on four counts of mischief damaging four vehicles, including a Toyota Vellfire and a truck, at the same location, time and date.

He was charged under Section 427 of the Penal Code, which carries a maximum penalty of 12 months in jail or a fine or both, if convicted.

Mustaza was also charged with failing to present his identity card, pursuant to Regulation 7 (1A) of the 1990 National Registry Regulations, which carries a maximum fine of RM20,000 or up to three years in prison.

Assistant Prosecutors Alison Chan May Kam and Atifah Hazimah Wahab appeared for the indictment.

Mustaza was represented by attorneys Suraj Singh and Raj Preet Kaur, while Khairul was not represented.

Mustaza was allowed bail of RM43,000 in collateral for all charges, while Khairul was denied bail due to the absence of a surety.

The cases were mentioned on April 19.

On February 26, a video recording of police officers shooting the tires of a Proton Waja car after two suspects refused to stop the vehicle in an attempt to escape police inspection went viral on social media.
