182 reported Covid-19 cases

PETALING JAYA: The number of Covid-19 cases again hit triple digits today with 182 cases reported.

Of that number, 181 involved local broadcasts while the remainder is an imported case.

However, no new deaths were reported, leaving the death toll at 128 cases.

The Director General of the Ministry of Health Tan Sri Dr. Noor Hisham Abdullah (pix) said that most of today’s local broadcasts involve Sabahs’ Lahad Datu detention center group with 167 cases.

“The remaining 14 local broadcasts come from the Sungai de Kedah group (11) and the Telaga group (three).

“The only imported case involves a Filipino citizen and was reported in Selangor,” he said today in a statement.

The latest tally leaves the number of active Covid-19 cases in Malaysia at 501.

Noor Hisham said 14 cases had recovered and were discharged today, bringing the cumulative total of recoveries to 9,181 cases (93% of all cases).

Nine of these patients were placed in intensive care units (ICU), and five of them required ventilation.

In Lahad Datu’s group, Noor Hisham said that 2,607 individuals had been tested at Tawau and 770 were tested at Lahad Datu.

“In Tawau, a total of 250 people, including the 167 reported today, were found to be Covid-19 positive. Another 625 were negative, while 1,192 still await results.

“At Lahad Datu, a total of 87 positives were found, 291 negatives and 392 are still awaiting results.”

Of the 167 cases in Tawau reported today, Noor Hisham said 76 were Malaysians, consisting of 70 prisoners and six of his close public contacts.

“The remaining cases are foreign, consisting of 61 Filipino citizens and 30 Indonesians,” he said.

Meanwhile, regarding Sungai’s group, a total of 50 cases (including 11 today) have proven positive in Kedah, along with one positive case in Perlis. However, all 122 people tested in Penang received negative results.

As for the Telage group, a total of 16 positive cases were reported, including three new cases today.
