PETALING JAYA: Chief Security Minister Ismail Sabri Yaakob said yesterday that the police arrested 182 people for crimes related to movement control.
In a statement, Ismail said that 181 of them were fined and one in preventive detention.
Most of the crimes, he said, were for participating in activities that made physical distancing difficult.
Other crimes committed include not wearing face masks and not providing personal contact information before entering the facility.
Meanwhile, a total of 2,849 compliance work teams were deployed to carry out controls in 18,023 supermarkets, restaurants, street vendors, factories, banks, government offices, as well as land, sea and air transportation terminals.
Authorities also detained 31 undocumented immigrants as part of Ops Benteng’s ongoing campaign. During the operation, three vehicles and a boat were also confiscated.
Regarding mandatory home quarantine, Ismail said that a total of 83,737 people who came through KLIA were screened for Covid-19 from July 24 to December 7 and had been quarantined.
The 509 people who tested positive were sent to the hospital for treatment, while 71,131 were allowed to return home after their mandatory 14-day quarantine.
Currently, 12,097 people remain in quarantine.
