KUALA LUMPUR: A drug union, with a processing laboratory in Muar, was arrested with more than RM12,000 of drugs seized after a series of raids in various states.
The director of the Bukit Aman Department of Narcotics Crime Investigation (NCID), Comm Datuk Ramli Din, said that 18 union members, including the mastermind, were arrested in nine raids in Kelantan, Pahang, Penang, Selangor and Johor of the May 9-12.
“We confiscated 110.72 kg of drugs, including 312,098 Yaba pills, 27,455 ecstasy pills and 40.45 kg of ecstasy powder from the raided sites.
“The drugs are worth RM12.04mil, and we also confiscated assets belonging to the union worth RM500,000,” he said at a press conference in Bukit Aman on Wednesday (May 13).
Those arrested were 10 local men, four local women and four Thai citizens, he added.
“Five of the suspects have a criminal record.
“A total of 10 suspects tested positive for methamphetamine,” said Comm Ramli.
Comm Ramli said police discovered a drug processing laboratory in Muar, Johor, believed to have been used to produce the drugs for the union.
“We believe that the Muar laboratory is its main laboratory in the production of multiple types of drugs before it is distributed to other parts of the country.
“The union has been in operation for about 10 months,” he added.
The COM. Ramli said the union supplies local markets and neighboring countries.
“Drugs are worth at least three times more abroad.
“The precursor and the chemicals to produce the drugs were purchased online and shipped from abroad,” said Comm Ramli.
