1,581 new cases, 100,000 cumulative count violations

COVID-19 | The Ministry of Health reported 1,581 new cases of Covid-19 today, bringing the accumulated cases to 100,318.

Klang Valley accounted for 55.3 percent of new cases, followed by Sabah (15.7) and Negeri Sembilan (9.1 percent).

In Selangor, 115 cases were detected through “other examinations”. According to the state health department, 31 cases were detected among those with symptoms and another five were done through voluntary screening. Learn more about “other assessments” here.

Main indicators:

  • Active cases: 19,860 ↑ (1,581 more than the previous day, new record)
  • ICU patients: 102 (unchanged)
  • Intubated patients: 45 ↑ (1 more than the previous day)
  • Deaths: 2

Both reported deaths were from Sabah. The cumulative death toll from Covid-19 for Sabah stood at 255 or 57.2 percent of the national total (446).

Details of both victims, all Malaysian citizens, are as follows:

  • Patient 46,551 – 15-year-old woman, body taken to Lahad Datu Hospital. No medical history.
  • Patient 97,575 – Male, 61 years old, body taken to Duchess of Kent Hospital, Sandakan.

From the case number, patient 46,551 was confirmed positive in mid-November and was only classified as a Covid-19 death today.

The Director General of Health, Dr. Noor Hisham Abdullah, did not hold a press conference and communicated through a press release.

He is not scheduled to hold a press conference until Sunday (December 27). Therefore, no RT-PCR test numbers are currently available.

Of the 1,581 new cases, only two are imported. A breakdown of the new cases is as follows:

Meanwhile, the Ministry of Health reported 206 active conglomerates, of which 53 reported new cases today.

The Penjara Jalan Haparan group had the highest number of new cases (185) and originated in the Sungai Buloh prison in Selangor, but has spread to other states such as Malacca.

The Permina construction site had 138 new cases. This group is isolated at a construction site in Lembah Pantai, Kuala Lumpur.

The Ministry of Health also classified four new clusters. The largest number of cases corresponded to the Kebun Baru group, which involved a factory located in the Kuala Langat district of Selangor. The 95 new cases reported today involve foreigners.

Sungai Burong’s group involved the Kuala Selangor district of Selangor, where the index case suffered a severe acute respiratory infection and was diagnosed on December 19. This group has 28 cases so far.

Tapak Bina Jalan Tun’s group involved a construction site in the Lembah Pantai district of Kuala Lumpur. To date, there are 26 cases in this group.

Jalan Pandan’s group involved several districts of Kuala Lumpur and Selangor, where the index case was diagnosed on December 14 after reporting symptoms. Thirty cases have been attributed to this group.
