PENDANG: Nearly 150,000 job seekers were able to find work through the Hiring Incentive Program, PenjanaKerjaya, in the six months since its launch in June.

Vice Minister of Human Resources Awang Hashim said job seekers included those who lost their jobs, graduates and those who dropped out of school. They have been placed with 47,000 employers across the country.

“Since the program began, the Social Security Organization (Socso) has organized 12 large-scale PenjanaKerjaya carnivals.

“Employer representatives were present to interview candidates to fill vacancies in their companies.

“Six of these were virtual carnivals, held in 28 locations. For the small interviews, 242 programs were implemented, ”he said at a press conference after opening the 2020 PenjanaKerjaya Carnival at the Kedah level here today.

PenjanaKerjaya was announced by Prime Minister Muhyiddin Yassin under the National Economic Recovery Plan (Penjana) in June.

Offers financial incentives of between RM600 and RM1,000 to employers for each employee or apprentice employed for up to six months.

Awang said that RM 160.66 million had been allocated to employers who had hired employees through PenjanaKerjaya as of December 23.

He said the incentive will continue through the 2021 budget with an allocation of RM2 billion, in addition to some new and improved incentives.

He advised employers to take advantage of this program’s incentives to recruit more people to reduce the nation’s unemployment rate.
