KUALA LUMPUR (Bernama): A 15-year-old Malaysian girl was reported to have died in Sabah from COVID-19 on Thursday (December 24).

Tan Sri Health Director General Dr. Noor Hisham Abdullah said the teenager died at Lahad Datu Hospital, but did not give details about the victim’s health history.

“I am saddened to announce that there have been two deaths from COVID-19 today, bringing the cumulative number of deaths from Covid-19 in Malaysia to 446 (0.45% of total cases),” it said in a statement Thursday.

The second victim was a 61-year-old man who died at Duchess of Kent Hospital in Sandakan and was reported to have a history of high blood pressure, dyslipidemia and stroke.

Additionally, Dr. Noor Hisham said that four new Covid-19 clusters were detected in Selangor and Kuala Lumpur, involving three workplaces.

He said that to date there are 102 cases under treatment in intensive care units, of which 45 were intubated.

Along with the Christmas celebrations, he reminded people to adhere to stipulated standard operating procedures, to reduce the risks of infection among family and friends by practicing the new normal.

In keeping with the latest technological advancements, he encouraged people to use video calls instead of visits to protect the elderly and vulnerable groups from infection.

“As the number of cumulative COVID-19 cases reaches 100,318, the public is urged to be more vigilant and careful to reduce the risk of COVID-19 transmission.

“May the difference in this year’s celebration be a memory for the future,” he said. – Bernama
