COVID-19 | Malaysia has reported 14 new Covid-19 cases in the 24-hour period to noon today, of which 10 were locally acquired infections.

Most of the local infections were part of Benteng’s LD group in Lahad Datu, Sabah, made up of two Malaysians and four foreigners.

The group was first reported on September 1 among those detained in a police cell in Lahad Datu.

However, the Director General of the Ministry of Health, Dr. Noor Hisham Abdullah, said that the six new cases from the Benteng LD group were detected today in Tawau prison.

Meanwhile, in Kedah, four new cases have been reported.

Three of the new cases were from the Tawar group, while one was from the Telaga group.

The Tawar group is linked to a funeral held in Baling on July 31 and August 1, while the Telaga group was first detected when a health worker at Sultanah Bahiyah Hospital tested positive for the disease, although it was believed that the infection was acquired in the community.

Two new cases have also been reported in the Bunga group, which is isolated among the crew members aboard a ship in Port Dickson, Negeri Sembilan.

They are classified as imported cases from Singapore, with six cases in the group so far.

Imported cases have also been detected with a non-Malaysian arriving in Kuala Lumpur from the Philippines and a Malaysian arriving from Singapore.

Overall, the total number of Covid-19 cases in Malaysia has risen to 9,374.

Four patients today recovered from the disease and have been discharged, leaving 163 cases still active.
