136 people found violating RMCO

PETALING JAYA: A total of 136 people were arrested yesterday for violating the recovery movement control order. “Of that number, 36 people were in pretrial detention, while the remaining 100 were handed compounds,” said Chief Minister (Defense) Datuk Seri Ismail Sabri Yaakob (pix) said yesterday in a press release.

The crimes committed were not wearing masks (26), ignoring social distancing (43), not providing equipment for the contact tracing record (11), operating without a license (four), attending club and pub activities (19) , illegal immigrants (22), entering and leaving areas under the Enhanced Movement Control Order (two), and for being away without a proper reason (nine).

Additionally, Ismail Sabri said 3,056 teams under the compliance task force conducted checks at 16,403 locations, including supermarkets, restaurants, street stalls, wet markets, places of worship and recreational areas.

Task force teams will also focus on private party activities and activities in pubs and nightclubs that have not yet received the green light to resume operations, he added.

It said Ops Benteng, which involved the Armed Forces, police, the Malaysian Maritime Control Agency (MMEA) and the Malaysian Border Security Agency (AKSEM), yesterday arrested a total of 64 illegal immigrants, a captain of ship and five land vehicles.

Furthermore, 10 illegal immigrants (eight men and two women) were arrested in Bandar Penawar, Johor.

In total, 7,012 people consisting of 5,992 illegal immigrants, 737 ship captains and 283 suspected smugglers have been arrested under Ops Benteng from May 1 to September 21.

At the sports facilities, Ismail Sabri said they will be allowed to extend business hours until 2 am, but they will have to keep the given SOPs.

Ismail Sabri reminded the people of Sabah to continue to follow standard operating procedures (SOPs) while campaigning for the upcoming state elections.

He added that Malaysians who had returned to Sabah would not have to go through the 14-day quarantine.

“However, those with symptoms would have to have a swab test upon landing,” he said.
