1,309 new cases, 493 in KL

PETALING JAYA: The Ministry of Health has reported 1,309 cases of Covid-19 and three deaths in the last 24 hours.

Chief Health Officer Dr Noor Hisham Abdullah said the new cases bring the total number of infections in the country to 64,485, while the three deaths bring the total number of victims to 357.

The new cases comprise 1,308 local infections and one imported case.

In a statement, Noor Hisham said there were 1,333 recoveries, bringing the total number of discharges to 52,647.

A total of 11,481 people remain in treatment, 116 of them in the intensive care unit and 42 requiring respiratory assistance.

Kuala Lumpur had the most cases with 493, or 37.7% of the current grand total. A total of 473 cases (95.9%) in Kuala Lumpur came from workplace clusters.

Sabah had 290 cases (22.2% of the total), with close contact examinations representing 130 cases, groups registering 90 cases, and 71 from other examinations.

Meanwhile, Selangor had 238 cases (18.2% of the total), with 113 from groups, 49 from close contact exams, and 76 from other exams.

Other states with new reported cases were Perak (77), Kedah (52), Penang (46), Johor (37), Labuan (35), Negeri Sembilan (32) and Kelantan (six). Pahang, Melaka and Terengganu each registered one case.

Noor Hisham said that 75 cases today were from prisons, dungeons or temporary detention centers, most of which were from the Tembok group (38).

On the three deaths today, Noor Hisham said they involved two Malaysian men and a foreign woman in Perak, Negeri Sembilan and Sabah, respectively.

They were between 53 and 89 years old and had a history of chronic diseases.
