1,290 new cases, record number of ICU admissions

COVID-19 | The Ministry of Health reported 1,290 new cases of Covid-19 and four deaths as of noon today.

The ministry also reported that 110 Covid-19 patients are in intensive care, beating the previous record of 108 set on April 3.

Main indicators:

  • Active cases – 13,222 ↑ (408 more than the previous day, new record)
  • Intensive care – 110 ↑ (7 more than the previous day)
  • Intubated patients – 37 ↓ (4 less than the previous day)

Sabah reported the highest number of new cases (51.2 percent) followed by the Klang Valley (37.1 percent) and Perak (3.7 percent).

A third of the new cases in Sabah were related to detention centers.

In the Klang Valley, half of the new cases were attributed to the Teratai group, which involved the Top Glove factory in Kapar district, Selangor.

A large number of new cases were also discovered in a new group in Selangor known as Kapas BJ, which involves the Hulu Langat district. According to the Selangor Health Department, the factory involved was located in the town of Semenyih.

Both the Teratai and Kapas BJ groups involved dormitories for foreign workers.

Two deaths were reported in Sabah. Two other deaths were reported in Johor and Perak, respectively. The details are as follows:

‘Patient 43,767’ – 62-year-old citizen, died at Enche ‘Besar Hajjah Khalsom Hospital in Kluang, Johor.

‘Patient 43,923’ – 29 year old citizen, died at Duchess of Kent Hospital in Sandakan, Sabah.

‘Patient 45.064’: 58-year-old male citizen, died at Raja Permaisuri Bainun Hospital in Ipoh, Perak.

‘Patient 50,117’ – Foreign woman, 47 years old, died at Lahad Datu Hospital, Sabah.

The cumulative death toll from Covid-19 in the country had reached 326. The death toll in Sabah alone had reached 184 or 56.4 percent of the national total.
