PETALING JAYA: The Health Ministry announced that as of 12 p.m. today, there are 11 new cases of Covid-19, bringing the total number of infections to 9,317.

Health Ministry Director General Tan Sri Dr. Noor Hisham Abdullah said that of the 11 new cases, 10 were imported cases involving six Malaysians and four foreigners.

These imported cases had returned from India, Indonesia and Qatar.

Meanwhile, the only locally transmitted case involved a Malaysian who tested positive for the virus during a pre-surgery examination at Sarawak General Hospital.

“No deaths related to Covid-19 were reported, keeping the death toll at 125,” he said today in a statement.

Noor Hisham added that eight patients had recovered, leading the number of recoveries to rise to 9,038 patients.

There are currently 154 active cases in treatment in the country’s health facilities, with eight patients in intensive care units (ICU) and six of them on ventilatory support.

Meanwhile, Noor Hisham also said that the Camp Terendak military hospital in Malacca, together with the state Department of Health, is taking steps to address Covid-19 cases among its staff and patients.

So far three cases of Covid-19 have been detected in the hospital, two of which were found during the pre-surgery evaluation and a member of the staff in the hospital.

The Health Ministry has said it is conducting a risk assessment among its staff members.

“Active case detection and close-contact detection of Covid-19 cases is underway.

“Instructions for home quarantine have also been given to close contacts. In the case of people who present severe respiratory symptoms, they will be referred to hospitals for isolation and additional treatment, “he said.

He added that as of August 29, up to 109 people have been identified as close contacts to the positive Covid-19 cases and are awaiting the results of their tests.
