PUTRAJAYA: The Ministry of Health has reported 1,041 cases of Covid-19 in the last 24 hours.

Chief Health Officer Dr Noor Hisham Abdullah said he will release more data on the third wave that will hit Malaysia later.

He said this during a special briefing to fight Covid-19 here today.

In a statement, Noor Hisham said there were 1,405 recoveries, bringing the total number of discharged patients to 40,493 cases.

He said the total number of cases in the country is now 53,679, while the total number of active infections is 12,854.

Of these, 108 cases are in the Intensive Care Unit (ICU), and 45 patients require the help of respiratory ventilators.

Today there were three deaths, bringing the figure to 332 cases (0.6% of reported cases).

Selangor reported the highest number of infections with 402 cases (38.6%), followed by Sabah (346 cases or 33.2%) and Negeri Sembilan (11.6%).

Selangor has the highest number due to the number of active cases in the Teratai group (298 or 74.1%), said Noor Hisham.

“Sabah also has the highest number due to intensive medical swabs, while in Negeri Sembilan, the increase is due to the increase in the number of clusters,” said Noor Hisham.

The three who died were from Sabah.

Among them was a 62-year-old man with a history of high blood pressure, diabetes and obesity, and a 78-year-old man with a history of high blood pressure.

The third patient was a 55-year-old woman with high blood pressure and diabetes.
