PUTRAJAYA: The Ministry of Federal Territories will develop 10,000 affordable housing units for young people.

These units, priced at RM200,000 each, will be built under the “Residensi Prihatin” program, Minister Annuar Musa said.

He said that in this first phase of the program, 1,000 units will be built in Labuan, 3,000 in Putrajaya and 6,000 in Kuala Lumpur.

“Construction works are expected to begin in the second quarter of 2021.

“They will be completed in 24 months if the modular technology method is used or in 36 months if conventional methods are used, he said.

“Although it was built at the price of affordable housing, there will be no compromise on construction quality and amenities,” he said during a press conference after attending a Wilayah Cakna 3.0 donation ceremony here today.

Annuar said that five projects in Putrajaya, which were under the Malaysian Public Officials Housing Program at Presint 5, 7, 14 and 19, which were previously canceled, would be resumed under the “Residensi Prihatin” program.

Interested parties can apply through the website of the Ministry of Federal Territories, he added.

Earlier, Annuar presented RM100 “Back to School” vouchers to 1,000 students under the Wilayah Cakna 3.0 initiative during a ceremony today. The initiative will help 26,000 students in the federal territory.

When asked about the repair works on the housing units of the Meninjau Public Officials Housing Project in Malaysia (PPAM) in Presint 11, he said the defects are being rectified by the developer, who will bear the costs.

Annuar, who personally inspected the damage at PPAM Melinjau today, said that several hundred of the affected units had already been repaired. Work is pending on another 127 units. They involve damage to the structure and the designs do not meet the required standards.

“The developer remains responsible for repairing the damage to the units because it is still in the period of liability for defects,” he told reporters after the survey.

The media had previously reported that the owners of PPAM Melinjau were not satisfied with the condition of the homes, which were completed three years ago. The owners claimed that the developer had not delivered the affordable housing units in perfect condition and according to construction specifications.

In another matter, Annuar, who is also the general secretary of Barisan Nasional, said that Tengku Adnan Tengku Mansor’s status as a Putrajaya deputy would remain unchanged as he had obtained a stay of execution for his sentence.

He was asked to comment on the condition of Tengku Adnan after he was found guilty of receiving a bribe of 2 million ringgit.

The High Court sentenced Tengku Adnan to 12 months in prison and fined him RM2 million after he was found guilty of receiving a RM2 million bribe from a businessman in 2016.

Judge Mohamed Zaini Mazlan, however, allowed Tengku Adnan’s request to postpone the jail sentence and fine pending the outcome of his appeal.
