JOHOR BARU: Police arrested 10 people, including a teenager, believed to be part of an underground society, in connection with the murder of a car repossessor.
Johor Police Chief Datuk Ayob Khan Mydin Pitchay (Photo) said the 10 suspects, aged between 17 and 31, who are believed to be part of the Ngo Seik Kee (Five Colors) underground society, were captured during a raid in Bakri, Muar around 12:15 a.m.
He said the latest arrest brought the number of suspects in connection to the case to 12, as two people were previously arrested near the crime scene near Sedenak, Kulai, last Sunday (December 20).
The 34-year-old car salvager was reportedly found with stab wounds in a ditch at KM40.1 of the North-South Highway heading towards Kuala Lumpur.
The victim and a friend had previously recovered a Toyota Vellfire in Johor Baru.
They were returning to Kuala Lumpur in the same vehicle when they were intercepted by two other vehicles, causing the multipurpose vehicle to lose control.
The remains of the victim, with stab wounds to the head and body, was left at the scene while his friend managed to flee.
Ayob was confident that the case could be resolved with the arrests and investigations determined that the reason for the incident was due to dissatisfaction with the payment of the seized vehicle.
“All of the suspects arrested have criminal records related to drugs and other crimes. We are still looking for several other suspects, still at large, in relation to this case, ”he said, adding that the suspects were in pre-trial detention under Section 117 of the Criminal Procedure Code.
He also urged the public to refrain from accepting offers to buy repossessed vehicles at a lower price, as such vehicles were generally linked to suspicious activities involving clandestine companies.
