PUTRAJAYA: The National Security Council has allowed 1 Utama shopping center to reopen its doors from Saturday (October 17), says Datuk Seri Ismail Sabri Yaakob.
The Chief Minister (Security) said that this followed measures taken by health authorities and the mall management to detect close contact and conduct a disinfection exercise after a positive Covid-19 case was reported there.
The 1 Utama shopping center, the minister said, was instructed to shut down its operations on October 11 to allow testing for Covid-19 on all workers.
As of October 15, health authorities examined some 6,000 people, including tenants, workers and staff, as well as 110 customers of the mall.
Ismail explained that the tested customers had close contact with those at the mall who tested positive.
“From the screening exercise conducted, those whose Covid-19 tests were positive were sent to the hospital for treatment, while close contacts who are asymptomatic have been asked to be quarantined for 14 days and given hand over the quarantine bracelet, ”he said on Friday (October 16).
The minister said those showing symptoms were asked to go to health clinics for further checks.
“With all the measures taken, the NSC meeting has agreed that the complex will be operational again from tomorrow,” he said.
On Oct. 16, the mall said that only a security guard working at the 1Utama mall was found to have contracted Covid-19, refuting the report by the chairman of the Petaling district management committee, Johary Anuar, that 44 security guards at the mall had been infected.
