PETALING JAYA: Police arrested another individual for odor pollution this week in Sungai Selangor, which left more than a million homes in the Klang Valley without water.
Selangor CID chief Fadzil Ahmat said the 58-year-old was arrested at the Tengas industrial center in Ulu Yam, Selangor.
In a statement, he said early investigations found that the man had sold the same toxic waste found in Taman Velox to one of the people previously arrested.
He said the suspect has been in pretrial detention for seven days as of today.
The contamination was reported to date back to a factory in Taman Velox, with solvents removed through a manhole flowing into an Indah Water Konsortium (IWK) sewer plant.
An investigation team found several solvent-filled plastic containers with the same odor detected at IWK’s sewer plant and all four water treatment plants that were closed.
Since then, the facilities have been closed by the Selayang Municipal Council.
IWK had denied the allegations that it was involved in odor pollution, saying it was caused by the illegal dumping of third-party waste.
The closure of Phase 1, 2 and 3 of the Sungai Selangor water treatment plants and the Rantau Panjang plant caused 1,139,008 households in 1,279 areas of the Klang Valley to run out of water on Tuesday.
The plants resumed operations on Wednesday and the water supply has been fully restored as of this morning.
