Maine brewery says it canceled Women for Trump event because it was misled by campaign

A Freeport, Maine brewery canceled a Trump re-election campaign event scheduled for Wednesday, and the owners said they were not told it was an official campaign event.

Brad and Nancy Nadeau, the owners of Stars and Stripes Brewing, said they told some members of the Trump campaign staff, including the president’s daughter-in-law. However, a campaign press release touted the brewery as a stop on the “Women for Trump” bus tour, according to the Bangor Daily News. Brad Nadeau, a Marine who served in Iraq, said the brewery does not endorse candidates or host formal political events, and said he called for the campaign to cancel the event after they saw the establishment on the online event listings for Trump.

“I tried very hard to keep this brewery positive, and we haven’t had any backlash because we don’t do anything negative,” he told the newspaper. “But when it comes to politics, people are far from anywhere.”

“In this particular situation, we were asked if a group of women who support a political agenda could enjoy a beer in our brewery. We believe that everyone has the same rights as they should, and we do not deny anyone entering our facilities, ”the brewery said in a statement on its Facebook page. “Now we see that there is political reasoning to be here and again we do not endorse any political party or point of view.”

In addition to Lara Trump, the event will feature several other high-profile advisers to the president and his campaign, including Katrina Pierson, Mercedes Schlapp and former Florida Attorney General Pam Bondi, as well as Dale Crafts, the Republican candidate for the state 2North Dakota Congressional District.

Maine Democratic Party President Kathleen Marra intervened in the Trump campaign in a statement on the matter, saying: “While the rest of the country faces the consequences of the failed response to Trump’s coronavirus, the campaign of Trump can’t even take a correct photo. “
