‘Lucifer’ Season 6 Episode of Black Lives Matter will not be coming from ‘A Beautiful Place’, says Show Boss

From angels to gods to the Prince of darkness, Lucifer is a fantasy series that is delightfully addictive. But in season 6, the show will explore something remarkably relevant to the real world. An episode of Lucifer will address the Black Lives Matter Movement. Here is what we know so far.

The creative minds behind ‘Lucifer’ want to ‘tackle systemic problems of the police department’

Lucifer executive producer and showrunner Ildy Modrovich spoke with Entertainment Tonight about a very special sixth season episode that will revolve around the Black Lives Matter Movement. The creative leadership acknowledged that while Lucifer can be a fantasy, it is also a headline in an era when police departments are under control for glorious problems.

She told ET this about the reason for recording the episode in Lucifer’s final season. ‘When we were back to the [writers] room, we began to look at the fact that we are a cop show and in what ways we have contributed or not addressed the systemic problems of the police department. And we decided we wanted to talk about it. So, we’re actually doing a story that speaks directly to that, and we’m super excited about it. ”

During her interview with ET, Modrovich, who writes the episode, admitted, “I feel nervous because I want it right.” Regarding the approach, she said that the story “goes through the eyes of our characters from an emotional place and not a place of preaching.” Modrovich also aims “to look at the situation really socially, emotionally and resonate on a deeper level than just words like rhetoric.”

Tonally speak, Lucifer has hit the right notes since the premiere, as evidenced by the warm reception from critics and fans. The show has a Fresh Rating and a Positive Audience Score on Rotten Tomatoes because of the unapologetic authenticity of the characters.

Sure, it’s a strange story that’s rooted in fantasy, but the emotional stakes feel very real, because fans watch the characters grow, evolve, love, learn and share their journeys. Like last season’s Lucifer follows suit, the highly relevant Black Live Matter-themed episode has the potential to become a chapter of Lucifer’s dare we say redemption – story arc.
