Here are their responses:

LAS VEGAS METROPOLITAN POLICE DEPARTMENT
All LVMPD employees are strongly encouraged to wear face covers while on the job and on duty, regardless of job assignment. Within the Law Enforcement Operations Group and the Communications Office, the use of facial coatings should not prohibit or limit employees from communicating with each other or with the public we serve.

All LVMPD volunteers will wear face covers unless prohibited to do so due to health related restrictions. All visitors to LVMPD facilities will wear face covers in accordance with Nevada Executive Directive 024.

Within the workplace, the following facial coatings are within the policy.

  • LVMPD officers must wear KN95 and N95 masks (when in contact with known individuals from COVID-19), otherwise surgical masks and cloth masks are authorized.
  • All members transporting prisoners to any jail facility (city or county) will wear a surgical mask. Officers will ensure that the detainee also wears a surgical mask during transportation, to include wearing the mask in prison.

Will LVMPD enforce the Governor’s order?

We will comply with the governor’s order. Businesses that do not comply with the Governor’s Directive would be under the responsibility of business licenses to investigate and enforce. With respect to criminal enforcement, there are numerous exemptions in the Directive regarding people in public who do not wear a mask. Specifically, the police cannot verify a claim for a medical condition that exempts a person from wearing a mask. Contact the Governor’s Office for more information on the directive, thank you.
