We look forward to seeing a mid-range phone with a set of impressive specs for a price that might have a chance of our best cheap phones running in fear. But the lead-up to the Nord launch has been weird as OnePlus provides new bits of information about its long-awaited phone via social media. So it stands to reason that their launch event on July 21 is also a little different.
OnePlus is choosing to fully reveal the new phone through an augmented reality experience. But just added a more traditional option if an AR event sounds too much for you.
If you want to see more about the top version of the official OnePlus Nord reveal, you will have to download a special AR app that will turn your living room into the big stage for the OnePlus great phone reveal. Date and time of the OnePlus Nord event
The OnePlus Nord reveal event will take place on Tuesday, July 21 at 7 am PT / 10 am ET / 3 pm BST.
How to watch the OnePlus Nord launch event
You can watch the OnePlus Nord reveal event live, either on the company’s own site, in a traditional live stream … or in augmented reality. For the basic version, open this page at the time of the event, and you should be good.
For the AR-based option, you’ll need to download the OnePlus Nord AR app, which is now available on both the App Store for iOS and Google Play for Android.
Once you open the app, you’ll have the option to create an avatar (you can also skip this step “if it’s boring,” according to OnePlus). Presumably, this avatar will appear as part of some kind of virtual audience during the actual show.
After following a few prompts, you will be asked to move your phone to create a virtual AR gaming space for the event. Once it’s set up, you’ll see an augmented reality countdown timer for the popup program.
Once July 21 comes, just go back to the app and see the reveal on your table, floor, or any area you’ve designated as your OnePlus AR zone. OnePlus recommends having your phone fully charged, wearing headphones, and connecting to Wi-Fi for the best experience.
OnePlus Nord reveal event: what to expect
The star of the OnePlus Nord event will be the phone itself, which is expected to include specs like a 6.4-inch AMOLED display, a Snapdragon 765G CPU, up to 12GB of RAM, and up to 256GB of storage. The phone could also promote some serious music for photography, with a four-lens rear camera setup led by a 48MP wide sensor as well as a dual-sensor front-facing camera array.
OnePlus has sparked the design of the Nord on various social media, but we hope to see a more complete view of the phone at the event. We also look forward to hearing about the Nord’s price, which is confirmed to be under $ 500 and could warn affordable rivals like the iPhone SE and the upcoming Google Pixel 4a.
Also look out for a full reveal of the OnePlus Buds, a new set of OnePlus headphones that promise a whopping 30 hours of battery power to defeat the AirPods. And since OnePlus has noted that the Nord will be a complete family of products, we may see some additional hardware revelations at the show. Could this be a new OnePlus TV or an additional phone?
