Famous Lithuanian opera soloist died

This was confirmed by Jonas Sakalauskas, director of the Lithuanian National Opera and Ballet Theater, at BNS.

According to him, it is difficult to evaluate in words the legacy of V. Daunor, he is one of the most important soloists in Lithuanian opera.

“This is the best Lithuanian coach of all time,” said J. Sakalauskas.

“He left many roles, records, many students and educated him because he was also an educator,” he added.

Seimas spokesperson Viktoras Pranckietis expresses his condolences to his family, friends and colleagues for the loss of the famous Lithuanian opera soloist Vaclovas Daunoras.

“The Lithuanian theater stage has lost its exceptional talent and legendary personality, which has inspired generations with its perseverance and courage,” said Seimas President V. Pranckietis.

V. Daunoras was born in 1937 in Žagarė, graduated from the Lithuanian Conservatory in 1962, taught at the Lithuanian Academy of Music for several decades, and was director of the Department of Singing and professor.

His students are the opera soloists Jolanta Čiurilaitė and Sofija Jonaitytė.

V. Daunoras worked for many years at the Lithuanian Opera and Ballet Theater, the Lithuanian Philharmonic, Kaunas Musical Theater, and in 1966-1968 he did an internship at the La Scala Theater in Milan.

The soloist has toured Europe, the United States, Canada, Egypt.

In 1988 he was a member of the initiative group of the Lithuanian Restructuring Movement.

V. Daunor lived in the US from 1994 to 2017, privately taught singing, was a soloist at the Metropolitan Opera Theater in New York from 1996 to 2005, and toured with this theater in Japan.

Prime Minister Saulius Skvernelis expresses his sincere condolences on the death of Vaclovas Daunoras, one of the most famous Lithuanian opera soloists.

“Lithuania has lost great talent and extraordinary personality. The legend of the scene has had a difficult but memorable career that has inspired generations. The brilliant memory of V. Daunor will remain in the hearts of his fans in Lithuania and abroad. I express my deepest condolences to the families of the deceased, ”says the Prime Minister.
