In the Lithuanian Basketball League (Betsafe-LKL), Kaunas Žalgiris (15/2) broke Pasvalys’s Milk Stars in his arena (8/11) – 95:76 (19:22, 23:26, 30:19, 23: 9).
“Žalgiris” started more successfully and split 8: 2, but Daniel Amigo with Andrejs Milutinovičius smoothed out the difference – 9:10. The “Žalgiris” began to stagnate in the attack, which allowed the opponents to weigh the result (11:10), although not for long, as Agustín Rubit prepared a response. The entire half was tense and persistent, and “Žalgiris” was 19:22 behind.
The Milky Stars, who advanced on long pitches, held the lead and increased their lead (30:25), and after another long pitch from Jahenns Manigat, Martin Schiller had nothing left to call for a break – 33:26. After that, Martin Geben struck, but it wasn’t comforting: Karolis Giedraitis continued to dominate the guests and the teams scored a double-digit number of points: 44:32. The distance narrowed, but after two halves “Žalgiris” was still 42:48 behind.
Both teams started the second half of the match with losses: Artūras Milaknis injured his shoulder and left the field, and Danielis Amigo fouled for the fourth time. Nigel Hayes tied the score (50:50) but then was eliminated from the game after committing a violation and still receiving a technical penalty. The triples of Tomas Lekūnas and J. Manigat once again put the guests away – 57:50. Paulius Petrilevičius bravely stopped Marius Grigonis, D. Amigo also got the fifth free kick, and Brankas Mirkovičius’s 3-pointer with the free-kick did not deprive Žalgiris of the lead – 72:67.
In the last quarter, “Žalgiris” quickly broke up – after M. Grigonis’ three-point difference, he already reached 14 points (86:72), and Laurynas Balkūnas, a young man from the “Milk Stars” who appeared in the square, signaled the capitulation of the guests.
Žalgiris won the first mutual match 81:67, followed by two more victories in the King Mindaugas Cup (Citadele-KMT) quarterfinals.
Both teams finished the match in extremely tight rotations. “Žalgiris” did not have Lukas Lekavičius with coronavirus, Joffrey Lauvergne with neck pain, Steve Vasturia recovering from the injury did not get off the bench, Milaknis suffered an injury, M. Geben and N. Hayes took five fouls, and Paul Murauskas and Mantas Rubštavičius were not involved with the team due to the NKL matches. Among the guests, T.Lekūnas, D.Amigo and Karolis Giedraitis used the foul limit, and Arvydas Šikšnius, who is having a difficult recovery after the coronavirus, continues to play for limited minutes.
Žalgiris’ team won the match for the balls 31:24, and both teams scored exemplary three points (Kaunas – with 44 percent accuracy, 8/18, Pasvalys – 45 percent, 9/20).
