Leonidas Volkov, the head of the Navalnas regional network currently living in Lithuania, and Vladimir Ashurkov, another opposition partner, discussed “other community steps” on Russia in a videoconference with European Union countries on Monday.

Envoys from the United States, Canada, the United Kingdom and Ukraine also participated in the video conference, which was initiated by Poland, and the Polish mission to the European Union told Twitter.

On Monday night, V. Vokov announced on the Telegram channel that he and V. Ashurkov discussed “personal sanctions” against billionaires Roman Abramovich and Alisher Usmanov.

According to L. Volkov, among others, they also appointed Andrei Kostin, director of the Russian state bank VTB, and the influential figure of the Russian media Konstantin Ernst.

Volkov did not say whether concrete agreements had been reached during the meeting, but said Navaln’s team would work to impose sanctions on people close to Putin’s immediate surroundings in the coming weeks and months.

A video conference between the EU and Russia was held following a sharp escalation of tensions following the arrest and imprisonment of Navaln.

During a visit to Moscow by EU foreign policy chief Joseph Borrell last Friday, Russia expelled three EU diplomats accusing them of participating in protests by Navaln supporters.

On Monday, Germany, Sweden and Poland announced the expulsion of a Russian diplomat each in response to a similar move from Moscow.

The EU’s foreign ministers have announced that they will discuss criminal measures and possible sanctions against the Kremlin at a meeting on February 22.
