Excess probiotics are removed
Probiotics, often called good bacteria, benefit the proper intestinal microflora. According to Karolina Kudzinskienė, pharmacist at Eurovaistinė, the alteration of the microbial balance can cause various diseases, including gastrointestinal disorders such as irritable bowel syndrome, allergies or urinary tract infections.
While dietary probiotics are still believed to be sufficient, the pharmacist says they are low in food, so if you’re feeling disturbed, expect them to be overcome by just eating probiotic-enriched foods. “If the microbiota in our body breaks down (this is called dysbiosis), then we must choose probiotics as drugs or food supplements. In case of serious ailments, the doctor can prescribe medicines and it is enough to take nutritional supplements in a prophylactic way ”, explains the pharmacist.
According to the pharmacist, when taking probiotics we should not fear that we will still get them with food and therefore, overdose, their excess is eliminated from the body. However, it is important to consider the recommended probiotics for use by age groups: probiotics in children will not be effective in adults and probiotics in children will not be effective.

When to take probiotics?
Pharmacist K. Kudzinskienė says that probiotics can be used by everyone, and when we can, we can also evaluate them according to our own well-being: they can be used periodically prophylactically or if necessary.
Probiotics are often used to treat bloating, constipation or diarrhea, symptoms of canker sores or dermatitis, and many other diseases.
It is important to note that the use of probiotics is not a substitute for a balanced and healthy diet, and eating healthy and varied foods may require the additional use of probiotics much less frequently. However, the pharmacist points out that the use of various drugs, stress, changes in the environment can cause dysbiosis, so in such cases it is useful to take additional probiotics.

The pharmacist warns that food supplements are often used prophylactically abroad to prevent ailments, although Lithuanians tend to use them only when they feel worse.
“Probiotics are also treated in the same way, they are generally used in Lithuania only when we feel ailments or use antibiotics. However, we must take more care of our microbiota, because it is responsible for our well-being ”, concludes the pharmacist.
