In assessing the epidemiological situation, the Minister noted that reducing the testing of symptomatic individuals promises to further expand preventive research.

“As the virus gradually subsides, symptomatic testing has decreased and this opens up new possibilities, and now we will expand to more voluntary testing. Now it is being launched by both educators and professionals who provide psychological support and psychotherapeutic services.

6 thousand have already been tested. employees of educational institutions and about 1,100 of them showed positive responses. So that’s 18 percent. And that’s a pretty good number, especially when compared to the fall results. And it is a sign that it makes sense to do such preliminary tests, ”said the Minister.

Ensured the safety of the vaccine

The minister recalled that 12 thousand people came to Lithuania. doses of AstraZeneca vaccines, which are already distributed among municipalities.

“It has been decided that the vaccine will be used in the most effective schedule: first, it will be administered before the age of 55. Because educators are now a priority area, they will first be vaccinated,” he explained.

A. Dulkys assured that this vaccine is completely safe, but since the quantities of vaccine are limited and it is desired to use them in the most effective way, the first shipment is considered to be the most effective group of people.

“However, we have already applied certain recommendations to the State Drug Control Agency, we will consult with experts, establish the highest efficiency for other groups and make decisions accordingly,” said A. Dulkys.

The minister pointed out that he agreed that the priority now was for educators, so they would be vaccinated no matter what vaccine was available at that time.

At the same time, he recalled that vaccines are not mandatory, just as preventive tests are not mandatory for educators.

“Vaccination is not mandatory for anyone, also COVID-19. And if the educator has not been vaccinated, he is not obliged to carry out preventive tests. Therefore, preventive tests both for educators and for other groups in society are only volunteers. So if the teacher refuses to take the test, it really can’t be related to his removal from work, “explained A. Dulkys.

The changes are fragile

Commenting on the upcoming decisions, the Minister said that, unlike last week, the scenario includes the fact that certain measures will be possible to consider not only at the national level, but also in the municipalities.

“The changes are fragile, but you always want to see them in a positive way. Because from what I saw, we already had a morbidity rate of 350 cases in 2 weeks per 100 thousand population. (…)

As the Minister mentioned, the changes for next Wednesday could be related to both beauty services and commerce, but the decisions will still be detailed, “said A. Dulkys.
