Russia has extradited to Spain a Lithuanian citizen suspected of murder

According to her, the man was arrested last March at Moscow’s Vnukov airport when he was trying to enter Russia with someone else’s Russian passport. The man had no other identity documents.

The Russian authorities have received information that this person is a Lithuanian citizen and that the Lithuanian and Spanish law enforcement agencies are seeking him for illegal deprivation of liberty and murder, said a representative of the Interior Ministry.

The Russian Attorney General’s Office allowed the extradition to Spain.

A report from the Public Prosecutor’s Office states that D. Vaitkevičius was wanted in Spain for murder and attempted illicit drug trafficking.

According to preliminary investigation, in October 2017, in the coastal town of Alicante, in southeastern Spain, D. Vaitkevičius killed a man with a hammer and knife in a dispute. Furthermore, he and his accomplice kept a large quantity of cannabis in their home. The insurgents were found and confiscated by Spanish law enforcement officers, the Russian attorney general’s office said.

At the same time, the Alicante court issued a European arrest warrant against D. Vaitkevičius; was added to the list of wanted refugees.
