Klaipedos Vanduo states that for two days, looking for a source of contamination, approximately 2-3 kilometers of surface sewage networks were inspected and all wells and inlets to the company’s territories were inspected.

“With the help of TV diagnostics, the brigade saw a yellow-brown plate at the water level on the walls of the pipes of the underground rainwater networks. By looking for similar posters on the walls, a possible area was identified from which contaminants leaked, ”reported Klaipėdos Vanduo.

AAD on pollution in the Curonian lagoon: all data obtained are analyzed

The Department of Environmental Protection (AAD) added the material presented by the Klaipėdos vanduo company to the results of the investigation received by the Environmental Protection Agency on Thursday and the additional inspections and investigations planned for next week.

According to the department, unscheduled inspections do not stop.

“We will examine the version provided by the company, as well as previous versions made public by this company and other entities. Our aim is to identify the real offender. I will just remind them that the company is obliged to stop the contamination,” says Ramunė Lukaševičienė, Chief of the Environmental Protection Inspectorate of the city of Klaipėda.

The AAD received information about the contamination in the Curonian Lagoon on Tuesday around 4 p.m.

The AAD released the preliminary results of the study on Thursday. The analyzed samples showed that the concentration of total nitrogen, total phosphorus and suspended solids in surface wastewater are discharged to the environment. It has exceeded the maximum limit value allowed for discharges to the environment several times.

The final results of the studies of all the parameters studied will be received from the Environmental Protection Agency before February 11.

According to Deputy Head of Department Jurgis Kazlauskas, inspections of Klaipėda Water and Grigeo Klaipėda are being carried out, and the version on possible contamination from the Banga ship is being inspected.

The Klaipeda Port Authority announced on Wednesday that yellowish contaminants were observed in the port area near the New Ferry on Tuesday night.

Tomas Eikinas, the head of Grigeo Klaipėda, said on Wednesday that the incident is not related to Grigeo Klaipėda.
