“In the current balance of the total electricity consumption of Lithuania, about 12 percent. it is Belarusian, or electricity produced by Astrave. That’s 11 million a month. euros. It can be said that consumers pay for the Astravas nuclear power plant, ”L. Kasčiūnas told reporters.

According to him, the problem of the Belarus electricity lockdown is closely related to the synchronization project, so it is important to resolve the disagreements with Latvia and Estonia as soon as possible.

“But we all understand that the current situation, which is happening now, is beneficial for a certain interest group, whether it is for individual companies in certain countries or similar. Of course, those companies, living with those schemes, can do everything possible. to make the timing slower or non-existent. That’s what you have to think about, “he added.

Energy Minister Dainius Kreivys provided data that over the past 10 days, half of all electricity entering the country through the Lithuanian-Belarusian cross-section comes from the Astrava nuclear power plant, the other half from Russia.

“The same amount is listed on the Latvian Stock Exchange. As we have a severe shortage of electricity, we consume it and pay for it,” said D. Kreivys.

According to the minister, this amounts to a total of 77 million. kWh.

“Translated, it is almost 4 million. Euros. If this continues, about 120 million. EUR per year will be paid for the additional construction of the Astravo nuclear power plant. Therefore, it is very important to prevent this in the future so that they are not funded the second and third blocks, ”said D. Kreivys.

He stressed that in mid-February Lithuania would present a new negotiating position to Latvia and Estonia.

“If we advance at this rate, we will import 4 times more electricity from third countries than last year,” added the minister.
