According to the mayor of the capital, she did not live up to expectations.
“I thank the leader for his efforts, but we did not find a common agreement, we could not open the door of the city hall more widely to the citizens,” R. Šimašius said in a municipal statement on Tuesday.
At the time, the ousted city council chief BNS said he intended to appeal the dismissal to the court.
“Definitely yes, because no rationale was provided, no arguments were given, no reasons were given,” Ostrichenko said.
He said the mayor’s decision was unexpected.
“It just came to our knowledge then. The first is an unexpected decision, without arguments, without reasons,” said the head of the City Council.
O. Treščenko secured the offer to resign after receiving a remote interview with Marija Vyšniauskaitė, deputy director of administration, on Monday.
“She didn’t even care how I was doing. I was invited to a meeting by a new person, I met him for the first time. “I was very optimistic, perhaps to talk about the institution, to say what we did, what we did not do, and after all that, I heard an offer to leave by agreement of the parties,” said Ostrichenko.
“A reason has been identified: mistrust,” he added.
The director also said that she wanted to hear the mayor’s expectations because she had met with Šimašis herself a year and a half ago, then the mayor, according to her, neither presented his expectations nor listened to the manager’s work problems.
O. Treščenko has run the city hall since the beginning of 2018.
Patricija Poderytė, project manager of the institution, will temporarily preside over the town hall.
The municipality plans to hold a competition for the selection of a new councilor in the near future.
“I hope that the new manager is resistant to political influences, looks at innovations with open eyes and has a good artistic taste. The City Council must become an open and welcoming space for citizens,” said the mayor of the capital.
Vilnius City Council is one of the three surviving municipalities in Lithuania. Representative, cultural and commercial events are organized in the Town Hall.
