Vilnius club “Rytas” closed coach question. According to the website BasketNews.lt, the capital’s team has expressed its confidence in Giedrius Žibėnas, who has been temporarily appointed until now, and will finish this season with this specialist.
The 36-year-old “Rytas” took the helm in mid-January from Donald Kairis, with whom he said goodbye after the shameful crash of the King Mindaugas Cup tournament.
At the same time, the “Rytas” management kept looking for another specialist in the market, but during that time Žibėnas, who had four of the same possible victories, gained trust.
It was bolstered by the latest matchup won with Panevėžys Lietkabelis, who along with Utena Juventus are the main competitors in the fight for second place in the LKL regular season.
Žibėnas will continue to be assisted by Georgios Dedas from Greece and Gustas Maskoliūnas, who passed from Morning’s doubles.
Žibėnas for two seasons before moving to Morning’s headquarters in the summer. He has worked as a coach in Indonesia, previously held club positions in Denmark, Iran and NKL.
Kairys invited Žibėnas to the venue after working together in Poland, Estonia and the Lithuanian youth team.
Rytas fired Keith Benson on Monday, whose short-term contract expired on January 31. According to the website BasketNews.lt, the capital’s team is preparing to join the front line in the near future.
“Rytas” awaits the next LKL game on Sunday in Šiauliai.
