Virgilijus Žukauskas, ESO’s Director of Network Operations, says that the situation in the southeast of the country remains difficult.
“The main reasons are the wet snow falling on the trees. The branches of the trees break, the trees turn and it is very difficult to identify the faults, because we cannot cross the lines with the SUVs either, we get stuck, people have to walk, ”V. Žukauskas told BNS.
“As an example, the line in Perloja – it was managed three times yesterday, it was fixed three times and it was disconnected again. 700 users have been disconnected three times,” he added.
According to the director of the service, this Tuesday there were about 150 thousand riots. Sometimes some users have to re-fix the problem.
“Currently we have about 50 thousand. Customers are disconnected. During yesterday, about 150 thousand people felt disconnected. Clients, of which 40% were able to connect remotely or with the help of the automation operation. Of this, 150 One thousand. There were about 50 thousand people who disconnected more than once, in the sense that no single clients were connected here, but many clients disconnected several times, ”explained V. Žukauskas.
According to him, if last year’s storm “Laura” especially terrorized the west of the country, now Klaipeda and Siauliai are “practically calm, without any extra damage.”
“Last night there was more Alytus region here, Varėna, Vilnius, mainly. During the night, unfortunately, it spread a lot to Utena, well, and yesterday it was Kaunas, but today it has increased even more,” said the ESO representative. .
There are currently more than 200 brigades working in the country, 80 of which are permanent, but additionally assembled and temporary.
“In addition, temporary brigades have been formed from those people who normally do not rectify faults, that is, deserters, maintenance workers, etc., there are also 80 brigades. Well, the contractors work around 50 brigades: pruners, etc. We cooperate with the State Forestry Company, we help municipalities to access and the like. This is the situation, “said V. Žukauskas.
He did not predict how much it would cost to remove the effects of snow. According to the expert, the most important thing now is to restore supply to consumers. True, it is difficult to predict when the situation will be handled, because as soon as the faults are eliminated, they repeat themselves.
“We also work with brigades, who come from further afield, they don’t work after 12, they work more. We reserve hotels to stay overnight so that we can resume work in the morning, ”he said.
Wiring continues, but other measures are needed
When asked what is the situation with the construction of underground cables in the country, V. Žukauskas said that the process is underway, but that it is not realistic to expect that all the lines are hidden underground.
“Now we have 32 percent. (Underground – BNS) cables of 125 thousand kilometer lines. For a decade, our plan has added that around 11 thousand should be cable. Existing lines. Yes, now around 42 percent. The 10 kV lines, which are the most important, are already wired in the forests, which would be 67% at the end of the decade ”, explained V. Žukauskas.
He said that “if, in a populist way, we take and telegraph everything, neither much nor little is needed: 2,500 million euros.” As one of the alternatives, the expert cites the possibility of allowing the removal of trees that are above its distance to important lines.
“A year ago, after Laura, we had presented our proposals for the adaptation of legal acts, norms for the protection of electrical networks. We wanted a simple thing: that we could slightly expand the clearing instead of the protection zones, that is, we would have the right to cut down trees that are above the distance to the line from the protection zone, which is ten kilovolts. 10 meters in each direction, said V. Žukauskas.
According to him, this issue is stuck in the corridors of the ministries.
“It just came to our knowledge then. Yes, on the other hand, the fact that the wiring has to go in parallel to those places that are the most dangerous. That’s what we do,” he said.
According to ESO noon data, there were about 50,000 people without electricity in Lithuania. homes. Most of the faults are recorded in the Vilnius and Utena regions.
In the Vilnius region there were about 17.5 thousand without electricity, in Utena – about 14.8 thousand, in Kaunas – 7.5 thousand, in Alytus – 7.1 thousand, in Panevėžys – 3.3 thousand. consumers.
On Wednesday, the power supply resumed at about 35,000. customers, including short-term failures.
