Crime, as in mafia times: the kidnappers kept the victim in a box for 2 days and then dumped her on the road in Anykščiai district

The man was hospitalized for colds and bruises. The victim was known to police for previous offenses, Utena County Police report.

Officials from the Organized Crime Investigation Division of the Criminal Police of the Utena County Police Chief Commissariat, together with prosecutors from the Organized Crime and Corruption Investigation Division of the Panevėžys Regional Prosecutor’s Office, carried out intense research.

Various versions of the crime and the reasons for committing it have been initiated. After the urgent collection of important data for the investigation, the qualitative and professional analysis of all the material, it was established that the victim, using violence, was taken from the Anykščiai district to the Druskininkai district and kept in a box for more than two days. They then took him back to the Anykščiai district and left him by the road.

January 11, in cooperation with officers from the Alytus County Sheriff’s Office, a person who may have participated in the commission of this crime was identified and arrested.

The search of the suspect’s living environment revealed objects and means that may have been used to exercise violence and restrict the victim’s freedom.

Continuing the intense investigative action as of January 11. until January 14. Five more people suspected of joint involvement in the crime were arrested. According to the data collected, the crime was possibly organized by one of the detainees.

A pre-trial investigation is currently under way in accordance with article 138 of the Criminal Code of the Republic of Lithuania and article 146 of the same Code. One suspect is in pre-trial detention for three months, while others are in pre-trial detention.
